Profile of  Dr. Nygil Thomas

Dr. Nygil Thomas had his school education in Kerala. He did his graduation in Christ College and post-graduation in St Josephs College, Bangalore. He worked in the quality division of Biocon Limited, the largest bio pharmaceutical company in India for two years, three months. He was working in the Human Insulin, Insulin Glargine and Oral Insulin project. Later he joined as a junior research fellow (JRF) in the research department of St Josephs College, Bangalore under the guidance of Dr. Michael Rajamathi. He worked extensively on layered compounds, LDHs and LHSs. Later he became senior research fellow (SRF) in the same group. After completing his PhD, he moved to Fritz-Haber-Institute of the Max-Planck-Society, Berlin for post doctoral research. There he worked with Prof Dr. Robert Schlögl and group leader Prof. Dr. Malte Behrens. He investigated methanol synthesis reaction using Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 catalysts. Later he accepted the position of Assistant Professor in Post Graduate and Research Department of Chemistry, Nirmalagiri College, Kannur, where he is working at present.
